The Barefoot Poet

As I was walking to the library up at New College today, I walked through a courtyard (as I usually do), and found some poems scrawled in chalk around the lightpole. They were written by The Barefoot Poet (link goes to her Myspace page). By far my favourite was one called 'Bling,' which I photographed, and am transcribing here:

Bling
by The Barefoot Poet
Inspired by her muse - Jay Sloan

I heard you can buy a star
Pay to name it
For someone you love
And thought it sweet
But also strange
And, frankly, stupid
For anyone to believe
Stars can be sold
So I didn't
Buy you one
Just noted
Quietly to myself
That we share a constellation
Which is more
Than enough.

It really is beautiful.

I'm having trouble working today. And I had to pay a hefty overdue fee at the library, 'cause a book slid under my bed and I didn't check my school email regularly enough to know I still had it. But oh well, live and learn.
